Summary: The present day GDS system has its roots in BDS, started in 1970, BDSwas a 3D data-centered system for design, analysis and documentation ofsystem-built buildings. GDS started as a 2D drafting system, andproved more effective and marketable. Specialized applications and 3Dcapabilities were added gradually. Current interest is in simplifyingthe software, especially its user interface.
