| Summary: | Computer based information management introduces new possibilities andputs partly new requirements on information and classification systems. The rapid develop-ment and dissemination of information technology withinthe construction sector demands international co-ordination of standards andclassification systems. This paper presents the preliminary results of a studyof the product model classification systems IFC and POSC/Caesar inrelation to the established building classification systems as defined in ISO12006-2 and the Swedish BSAB 96. The study is part of a project with theaim to analyse the structure, scope and direction of development for thesedifferent systems, and to investigate the possibilities of co-ordination andco-operation between them. It shows a need for co-ordination of conceptsin the ontological and the domain levels. |
