summary International valuation standards have now become an established part of global valuation practice.Definitions of value (such as “market value” and “special value”) have become part of the lexicon of valuation practice, but with limited apparent consideration of the concepts of market underlying such definitions of value. This paper investigates the interaction between concepts of value and concepts of market within the IVS framework and identifies areas of ambiguity for further consideration.
